Start Eating healthy and sustainably on a small budget

Eating healthy veggies

Eating healthy on a small budget seems for many people impossible. Wealthy people have all the fun–or so they say. While money can certainly buy you a lot of things, it does not necessarily imply that they will be beneficial to your health. In fact, eating healthy and sustainable foods is often a lot cheaper than eating processed junk food. And not only is eating healthy better for your body, but it’s also better for the planet. So if you’re looking to save some money and eat better, here are some tips to get you started.

Here are some strategies that will help you eat right for your body and the planet. This will help you save money.

The best way to not overspend - buying in bulk

When it comes to spices and other frequently pricey ingredients, buying just what you require helps keep costs down. It’s not the same as your everyday grocery items. When you have a chance to purchase them in larger quantities, do it. Not only is it often a lot cheaper but you’re also not paying for packaging since it’s included in the cost of packaged products.

Cook in bulk and save time

Vegetables-healthy food

Make a large part of whatever you’re preparing and divide it into leftovers in a few different containers, which you can eat over the days ahead and store for future use. This is also a great time-saver. You can cook once and then have food for days or even weeks.

Make your own snacks

You’ll save a lot of money if you make your own snacks rather than buy them at the store. Not only are they often healthier but they’re also much cheaper. You can easily bake your own bread, for example, or cook up a big batch of rice and then add whatever vegetables you have on hand.

Shop at the farmer's market

Eating locally grown food is not only better for your health but it’s also good for the planet. And, in many cases, it’s cheaper than buying from the grocery store. Farmer’s markets are a great place to find fresh produce at a fraction of the price. Farmers will often have produce that’s not quite beautiful enough to go to grocery stores they will sell at discounts in person.

Build your empire with these two simple foods

Staples like rice and beans have built entire civilizations and empires. Whole grains are healthy for you and the environment, and they go down easily. They also provide excellent nutrition values to your body. Rice and beans are a perfect combination of protein, carbs, and healthy fats.

This mix is so filling that you’ll be satisfied with small portions. And because they’re cheap, you can add as many vegetables as you want to bulk up your meal without breaking the bank.

Should you eat more meat?

A simple question, but one that very often ends in heated discussions. Should we kill animals to feed ourselves?

Yes, but!!

What we definitely do not need on this planet are animal factories, which are operated without scruples and only for profit. However, animal husbandry is also possible in a completely different way and can still be operated economically and efficiently.

I let myself be guided by nature in my decisions. With regard to meat, I note that all native peoples eat meat. And very often meat is the main diet. I cannot hide from the fact that we humans were born at the top of the food chain.

Of all the diets I have tried, the Carnivore Diet is by far the best. The feeling of satiety is indescribable and I usually eat only once a day. Maintaining weight is no longer a problem and my health is better than ever.

Make it a ritual

One of my pals, on the other hand, has a weekly meal prep day: She sets aside Sunday evenings as a kitchen preparation ritual. Rituals are healthy and helpful for people who like structure, but also, this means she goes grocery shopping on Sunday afternoon. She prepares Sunday dinner, and then has leftovers and frozen meals for the rest of the week, saving her a lot of time and money.

Go for quality - not the cheap stuff

Reducing expensive things like processed foods in your diet has a ton of benefits.

Good quality meat is more expensive – but you eat less, because it saturates more.  Low-quality meat is very bad for you and the planet.

We all know that low-cost meat is produced in an unethically bad manner. It’s horribly wrong to mistreat animals and feed them grains, and it has a costly side: your health!

And the benefits to farmers, animals, the planet, and your health are immense.
